Knowledge Johnson, a boxer out of Firehouse Gym in Columbia Heights, became the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves Light Heavyweight champion in the elite division in April, winning his division at the regional tournament at Grand Casino Hinckley in Pine County. The title allowed Johnson to advance to the National Golden Gloves Champion in Philadelphia where he competed in the 176-pound division on May 8-13. At the national tournament, Johnson fell to boxer Julian Delgado in the preliminary rounds.
Another Firehouse Gym boxer, Jerry Bridges, became the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves Middleweight champion in the novice division after winning his bouts at the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves regional tournament.
