Locked in a defensive battle, the Blaine girls soccer team made a single goal stand tall as the third-seeded Bengals shut out sixth-seeded Duluth East 1-0 in the Section 7AA quarterfinals Oct. 8.

Following a scoreless first half, Kendall Stadden found the net just under two minutes into the second half to give Blaine the one-goal edge, which it would maintain the rest of the way.

Blaine, the defending section champion, advanced to take on second-seeded Centennial in the semifinals Oct. 10, with the winner slated to play either top-seeded Andover or fifth-seeded Anoka in the section championship Oct. 15 at the site of the high seed.

Boys 7AA

In a rematch of last year’s Section 7AA boys final, third-seeded Duluth East topped sixth-seeded Blaine 3-0 in the quarterfinals Oct. 8 to bring the Bengals’ season to a close.

Girls 5AA

Spring Lake Park earned the No. 4 seed in the Section 5AA girls field and was scheduled to open against No. 5 Robbinsdale Cooper Oct. 10, with the winner to take on either No. 1 Champlin Park or No. 8 Park Center in the semifinals Oct. 12.

On the bottom half of the bracket it is No. 3 Mounds View versus No. 6 Irondale and No. 2 Roseville versus No. 7 Osseo.

The championship match is Oct. 15 at the site of the high seed.

Boys 5AA

Spring Lake Park received the No. 7 seed in the Section 5AA boys field and was to open at No. 2 Roseville Oct. 10, with the winner playing either No. 3 St. Paul Central or No. 6 Irondale Oct. 12.

On the top half of the bracket is No. 1 Park Center against No. 8 St. Paul Harding and No. 4 Champlin Park versus No. 5 Mounds View.

The championship match is Oct. 15 at the site of the high seed.

Girls 5A

Totino-Grace earned the No. 3 seed, Fridley the No. 7 seed and Columbia Heights the No. 8 seed in the Section 5A girls field.

Fridley and Columbia Heights were scheduled to host first-round matches Oct. 10, with Totino-Grace earning a bye into the Oct. 12 quarterfinals. The semifinals are Oct. 15 and the championship is Oct. 17 at Osseo.

Breck and Benilde-St. Margaret’s are the top two seeds in the section.

Boys 5A

Totino-Grace earned the No. 4 seed, Columbia Heights the No. 5 seed and Fridley the No. 7 seed in the Section 5A boys field.

Columbia Heights and Fridley were scheduled to host first-round matches Oct. 10, with Totino-Grace picking up a bye into the Oct. 12 quarterfinals. The semifinals are Oct. 15 and the championship match is Oct. 17 at Osseo.

Breck, Blake and DeLaSalle are the top three seeds in the section.
