The feature

Senior Sara McGrath was a guiding force on and off the court for the Blaine girls tennis team this fall, serving as captain and a pillar in the Bengals’ doubles lineup.

Start in tennis

“I started playing tennis when I was in third grade, but didn’t start competing until the sixth grade. My mom was the one that introduced me to tennis and encouraged me to join.”

Favorite part of sport

“My favorite part about tennis is that it is self-reliant and you don’t really have to count on anyone else besides yourself or your doubles partner.”

Enjoy most about team

“My favorite part about playing tennis for Blaine is how close all the girls and coaches are with one another. It truly feels like a second family.”

Best thing about doubles

“My favorite part about playing doubles would have to be the encouragement me and my partner get off of each other. Whenever we are up or down in a match it is extremely helpful to have someone else on the court with you keeping your energy up.”

Top high school tennis memory

“My favorite memory from BGT (Blaine girls tennis) is from a match I played freshman year against Coon Rapids. I remember being down 1-4 and my coach Jody Cullen came up to me and told me that I was still in the match and that I hadn’t lost yet. I ended up winning 8-4 and received the ‘game ball’ the next day at practice.”
