The Blaine Fusion left little doubt from the outset in its Class B State Amateur Baseball Tournament opener, scoring six runs in the first three innings en route to a 10-0 shutout over Rochester Aug. 17 in Dassel.

The Fusion outhit the Royals 14-3 and were flawless in the field in advancing to the final eight and double elimination portion of the tournament.

Offensively, Matt Mossey went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Marcus Riewer and Chris Olson both collected two hits while driving in three. Jackson Hauge added two hits and two runs and Ryan Sutterer hit a two-run homer in the eighth to clinch the 10-run rule victory.

Davis Bryan went the distance on the mound in the three-hitter, striking out six while issuing only two walks.

Also from the Metro Minny, Coon Rapids fell 10-0 against Dundas Aug. 17 and Anoka fell 10-0 against Chaska Aug. 18. Dan Skog had two hits for Coon Rapids and Ian Walker had two hits for Anoka.

Blaine will resume state tournament play against Moorhead on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. in Dassel.
