The Minnesota Baseball Association Class B State Tournament will have a distinct local feel as Blaine, Coon Rapids and Anoka secured the top three berths out of Section 4 to earn spots to the 16-team field.

Blaine, the Metro Minny regular season champion, defeated Coon Rapids 7-2 Aug. 8 and 7-3 Aug. 9 to earn the top seed out of Section 4, with the Redbirds garnering the second seed.

The Anoka Buccaneers, which clinched its state berth the previous weekend by upsetting third-place regular season finisher Forest Lake, took the third seed out of the section by taking two of three from Champlin Park.

The Class B State Tournament opens this weekend in Dassel, with Coon Rapids against Dundas Saturday, Aug. 17 at 4:30 p.m., Blaine against Rochester Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. and Anoka against Chaska Sunday, Aug. 18 at 4:30 p.m.

First-round winners advance to the double elimination portion of the bracket, with games Aug. 24-25 in Dassel and Delano. Play concludes Aug. 31-Sept. 2 in Maple Lake, Delano and Dassel.

In the Class A State Tournament, the Tri-City Shark and St. Anthony Hogs fell in the first round of the double elimination bracket, finishing in the top eight.
