The Bracket Drag Racing Series at Brainerd International Raceway was off to a slow start this season, thanks mainly to Mother Nature, but the weather cleared up to open June, and some area drivers, like Bob Ingman of Andover, took full advantage.

Ingman was unbeatable in the Pro ET class, winning 12 straight races en route to a pair of finals wins.

On June 1, he drove his 1970 Mercury Cougar to five wins for the chance to line up against Dale Hildreth in the finals. Ingman was quicker off the starting line and never looked back, beating Hildreth with a winning time of 10.254 seconds at 129.98 mph.

On June 2, Ingman ran the table again, beating five other drivers in the 56-car field before facing Jerry Hieb in the finals. The two cars launched about the same time, but Ingman held off Hieb for the win, finishing with a winning time of 10.314 seconds at 120.16 mph. The double win leaves Ingman in second place in the standings behind Mike Casteel.

The Bracket Drag Racing Series was part of a trifecta of racing at Brainerd International Raceway called the Wet & Wild Weekend. With drag racing on the drag strip, the North Star BMW Car Club was on the road course while the International Watercross Association brought its crazy brand of snowmobile racing on open water to Lake BIR.

Back on the drag strip, Kyle Lundberg was one win away from a perfect weekend in the Pro Bike/Sled class. Riding a 2012 Suzuki, Lundberg won his way to Saturday’s finals, lining up against Bruce Sampson and his 1999 Suzuki. Although Lundberg was 3/1,000ths of a second away from a perfect reaction time on the starting line, he couldn’t hold off Sampson at the finish line. Sampson caught and passed Lundberg, finishing with a winning time of 8.200 seconds at 157.30 mph.

Sunday was a different story. Lundberg knocked off three other riders to return to the finals where he faced off against Bob Tallberg on the back of a 2003 SkiDoo sled. Lundberg nearly had another perfect reaction time but it was a moot point as Tallberg fouled at the starting line, handing Lundberg the win.

The Junior Dragster Advanced class is shaping up to be a two-horse race. Dylan Dancer and Riley Luberda, who won the Junior Dragster Intermediate title last year, have a commanding lead in the point standings after advancing to the finals both days. It was Dancer’s weekend, though, as he came away with a pair of finals wins over Luberda for the top spot in the standings.

The next Bracket Drag Racing Series weekend is June 21-23.
