Anoka County public safety campus enters design development phase

An Anoka County public safety campus is moving closer to reality.

The Anoka County Board has approved a recommendation from its Finance and Capital Improvements Committee to authorize consultant Buetow & Associates to perform the design development phase of the project at a cost of $360,000. See more in Peter Bodley's ABC Newspapers story.
 

Proceeds from 5th annual Arctic Plunge on Long Lake benefit Isanti County Safety and Rescue

ImageThose gathered at the 5th annual Arctic Plunge on Long Lake in Isanti on Saturday, March 3, were greeted with a nice surprise when Santa decided to stop by to take the plunge. Proceeds from the event were donated to the Isanti County Safety and Rescue. KQRS-FM on-air personality Lisa Miller and Herb Knutson with Northern Mortgage hosted the event. Over 35 jumpers braved the chilly waters of Long Lake, some jumping in wearing a bikini and others shirtless.
 

Isanti County Board supports rail service project serving area between Twin Ports and Twin Cities

The idea of having a passenger rail system run between the Twin Cities and the Twin Ports keeps moving forward.

During the Isanti County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday, March 6, it approved a resolution supporting the rail service project and authorized Isanti County to enter into negotiations to facilitate the formation of a joint powers agreement. Suddenly, Blaine had its chance to fulfill an objective - a state hockey championship

Win or lose this weekend won’t be the sole determining factor as to the measure of Blaine’s success this high school hockey season.

But if you ask the players, anything short of a state championship finish will be viewed as disappointment. Blaine opens the tournament late Thursday night (March 8) against Burnsville and if victorious will play either Edina or Grand Rapids Friday night (March 9) in the late game again. On a daily basis we hear about the turmoil in Iraq, but it’s becoming more rare to hear about our soldiers efforts in Afghanistan and Operation Enduring Freedom.Currently, there are roughly 27,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan. No charges are brought in 1957 Mille Lacs County death; witnesses asked to come forward

The 1957 death of Roger Vaillancourt, originally ruled as an accident, may have been murder as suggested by a book published in 2005, but we may never know the truth of the teenager’s death.

Mille Lacs County Attorney Jan Kolb released a statement last week saying there is not enough evidence to charge anyone with a crime. See more in Dawn Slade's story in the Mille Lacs County Times.

Gov. Pawlenty visits Minnesota troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan

It was announced yesterday (Wednesday, March 7) that Gov. Tim Pawlenty is in the Middle East to visit with Minnesota National Guard members, active duty military members and reservists serving in Iraq.

Pawlenty today (Thursday, March 8) also visited troops serving in Afghanistan.
