Minnesota Education Commissioner not pleased with test scores

mindy.jpgMinnesota Department of Education Commissioner Alice Seagren isn’t pleased with the 2008 school MCA-II math and reading scores.

“We welcome any improvement, of course, year to year,” said Seagren, speaking on Friday, June 27.

House K-12 Finance Committee Chairwoman Mindy Greiling, DFL-Roseville, anticipates more Minnesota schools will fail to meet federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) adequate yearly progress levels, because NCLB is unrealistic in its expectations, she said. Greiling, pictured at the unveiling of a new K-12 funding proposal last session, said funding alone is not the sole factor in achieving better schools — reform is needed. But Greiling dismisses the idea that reform alone is the answer to better education. "That's the most bogus argument of all," she said. (Photo by T.W. Budig, ECM Capitol Reporter)
