Rep. Tom Emmer runs for governor

Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Delano, outspoken conservative who often figures largely in House floor debate, is running for governor.

“Minnesota can no longer tolerate career politicians with no experience beyond the walls of our capitol or government bureaucracies,” said Emmer in a press release.

“Over the past couple of decades, we have stood silently by as the public bureaucracies have grown at an astounding pace at the expense of our private economy.  Our employers are leaving.  Our jobs have been following them.  This cannot continue if our children and grandchildren have any hope of enjoying the American dream here in Minnesota,” Emmer added
Insider talk for some time had Emmer, 48, an attorney, running for higher office. But one thought was it might be for attorney general.

Emmer has served in local government, local fire departments, and has been active in the community.

He and his wife Jacquie have seven children.
