The Upsider Blog

The Upsider Blog retired in November 2008.

Got Blog? Uh…no

Here’s a question we didn’t ponder when we decided to start ECM Blogs: What becomes of an author’s blog when they are no longer with the company?

Tomorrow is my last day with ECM, and I imagine the UpsiderBlog will either be archived or deleted altogether. Who knows?

The UpsiderBlog started on May 23, 2007 and has been going strong ever since. At the time ECM Blogs had two authors, me and Howie. Now ECM Blogs hosts 19 authors bringing a huge variety of content to the table, from sports, to health, lefties to righties and everything in between. Tim Budig has brought capitol coverage to the sphere, and Don Heinzman embraced this new technology.

Every one of the authors has contributed to making ECM Blogs a vibrant community I have no doubt will continue and improve. It’s a credit to ECM that it has trust enough in its employees to allow this unedited forum for opinion.

All the best to all of my fellow ECM bloggers. Being a part of this experiment is something I will miss a great deal. From now on I will be just another anonymous reader-slash-commenter, which means Matt is finally going to have to be nice to me. Ha ha!

Thanks to you all, writers and readers alike. You make this a fun and challenging place.

Peace. Out.

    I have a feeling SOMEONE is poised over a keyboard somewhere within the ECM Bunker, waiting to Delete your stuff.
    I hope not. Where does it go?

    I think it most likely will be sent over to the Museum for Excellence in Blogging.

    Interestingly enough, many of the posts from “Ranting is all the Rave” will be sent over there as well since that is where Pat made many of his more memorable comments.

    Like Mr. Perkins I will miss actually having an unabashedly conservative voice here in the ECM bloggesphere.

    It won’t be nearly as entertaining listening to everyone else agreeing with eachother.

    Thanks for all your efforts to bring some balance to this forum Pat. Best of luck to you!

    I’m going to print out all you blog posts and put them in a cardboard box so when the MSM comes knockin’ during your presidential bid in 2012, I’ll have them nice and handy. : )

    Best of luck Pat.

    Thanks all. You’re too kind.

    I’ll reiterate the points I have made in the past…

    A) I hope we find another conservative voice to step to the plate, because it’s a necessity with the likes of my blog and others;

    B) I hope that voice is confident and not malleable (I know there is discussion of turning these blogs into a boring extension of the newspaper that fails to provide an open and transparent forum);

    C) I hope PTs fans turn their admiration of his opinion into a formidable opponent for Ranting is all the Rave; and

    d) I hope that PT continues to provide content for these blogs, and if you ever feel the need to begin a discussion on a particular topic, don’t hesitate to use my blog as a vehicle. I would gladly begin discussion on any particular topic based on reader request. PT was, relatively speaking, a champion of the right who clearly is a voice for a large subset of the population. It’s more than obvious that PT was the first journalist on here to embrace the medium and offer up unfiltered opinion, I hope that it can continue after he is gone.

    “It’s a credit to ECM that it has trust enough in its employees to allow this unedited forum for opinion.” – PT

    I hope that remains the case.

    I’m sure I’ll blog with you soon, Pat.

    When I had the Farmington blog back in Summer 2006, it was just deleted when I left. So who knows! Best of luck to you.

    Lot of weird conspiracy stuff here. Data (be it blog content or any other Web content) is normally easy enough to archive and leave alone. However, when standalone databases or tables or content systems have to be migrated along with other content and managed on an ongoing basis, you can safely assume that it will eventually disappear, particularly if there isn’t revenue to justify perpetual management.

    Bottom line is Pat’s blog content will be here for a good while, and when the time comes that it isn’t here, it won’t be because of some conspiracy from the “ECM Bunker” (I love being lectured on balance and ethics by people who don’t even have the balls to comment under a real name).

    My recommendation to ALL writers of blogs and news, anywhere: If you want a permanent repository for your posts, store them elsewhere or set up your own blog. Don’t expect an IT department or 3rd-party free host to house it, move it, and manage it for years and decades.

    I can’t believe people are still wasting their time posting on this blog… good riddance.

    HAHA.

    (Oh wait, I’m not suppose to laugh on the blog.)

    No, but seriously, PT’s probably off somewhere smoking in a bar to prove one of his many previous points. Stick it to THE MAN!
