Candy corn and punk rock

I couldn’t be happier that today is Halloween. I’m wearing an orange shirt, I uncovered an old orange purse from the depths of my closet (I’m a mess, what can I say) and I’m looking forward to the candy I know I will for sure be eating later.

Even though the election is just a few days away and emotions are running high among almost everyone I know, I’m taking today to not even think about it and rather just enjoy the holiday.

Halloween is one of those days that I think everyone can enjoy. Sure, kids love it because they get free candy, but adults love it because they get to act like kids.

Personally, my favorite parts of Halloween are the mini kit kat candy bars and all the horror movies on TV. If I had to make a list of top scary movies, I would go with the original Halloween, the third Freddy Kreuger, The Cell and anything directed by Rob Zombie.
Tonight I’m celebrating by going to a costume party. As usual, I just couldn’t wrap my head around spending money on an outfit I’m only going to wear one night and then toss in the back of the closet, so I decided to get creative with clothes I already own.

Hence the punk rock post title. Yup. I was one of those kids in high school with the blue hair and fishnet stockings (everyone’s got to rebel, right). But, for some strange reason, I actually held on to a lot of those clothes, and somehow still even fit into them. So tonight’s ensemble will feature a plaid skirt, ripped stockings, a skull t-shirt, metal belt and about two hours of work with Elmer’s glue, a can of hairspray and a blow dryer (I’m going for liberty spikes).

But what I’m really looking forward to is the actual party at my sister-in-laws home. And why? No. 1, I think she might make the best taco dip ever, and No. 2 they own a pug who they dress up for Halloween. Last year he was a rugby player, and I think the year before he was batman.

I just absolutely love when people dress up their pets. Click here to see a few of my favorites.

So, if you have any photos you wouldn’t mind sharing with me, and the Star News Web site, please e-mail them to liz.nelson@ecm-inc.com with a brief description.

Eat a lot of spooky cupcakes and Happy Halloween!
