Sadly, I say my congresswoman is Michele Bachmann
My Congresswoman, I’m sad to say, is Michele Bachmann whose remarks about who is a true American are chilling.
Bachmann has started a firestorm since she appeared on National Television’s liberal show “Hardball”
She said she’s very concerned that he, Obama, may have anti-American views. And she went on that the media should look at the views of the people in Congress and find out if they are Pro America or Anti-America?
Can you imagine how the Congress is taking this? Who among them would vote for a Bachmann bill? Her power in the Congress has been greatly diminished, if I know anything about retaliatory politics from both sides of the aisle.
So my Congress woman, if elected, has little or no power.
Even more disturbing, she’s raised the shadow of McCathyism. Recall how the senator from Wisconsin made headlines by questioning the patriotism of Americans based on their associates.
What are those anti-American values Bachmann is railing about? Are
conservative values the American values and are those Liberal values anti-American? And, who is to judge?
No matter what our credentials, unless for something illegal, we are all Americans.
Obviously, you can carry this to extremes and the bloggers already have. The danger in all this is Bachmann says that during these divisive times we should choose up sides and dismiss those with Anti-American views and divide our country even more than it is.
I plan to vote for Barack Obama. That could brand me Un-American. The media, suggests Bachmann could scrutinize my financial records and mailing lists, my recent editorials, and who knows what my associations could do to my status as an American citizen?
Since when does my citizenship depend on my political views and my associations?
There is one good result. Now, I think El Tinklenberg, the endorsed DFL candidate, has a chance to defeat Bachmann this election. This could be a close race and in fact Bachmann could be defeated. Two weeks ago I would not have predicted that.
El Tinklenberg has my kind of American values and it’s time for Michele Bachmann to go, because her views and conduct questioning the American values of even the Congress are too un-American.
