The Greiling plot thickens
In regard to recent posts on Rep. Mindy Greiling’s strong-arm tactics against Katherine Kersten, dwp4401 writes:
At the present time, the Department of Education is investigating the allegations against this school. Greiling has now issued a not so veiled threat. Her committee controls the Department’s budget and they are now on notice that the Chair will brook no change of the status quo at this school.
Greiling herself seemed to confirm that view in an interview with Minnesota Monitor:
She said she spoke up not only because she feels Kersten’s article was incorrect, but because she was amazed by the quality of the school. “I saw such well-scrubbed, beaming students,” she said. “It was just such an impressive school…. a school to be emulated, not hated. She’s [Kersten] been a thug herself, as far as I’m concerned.”
What the appearance of students has to do with anything is beyond me. Kersten never accused the school of having unkempt students. She accused the school of gross violations of policy regarding public schools and religion, none of which Greiling has disputed as yet. Nevertheless, she now uses her position to call Kersten a thug.
Power Line has requested Greiling provide facts that dispute Kersten’s reportage, and John Hinderaker is surprised the Star Tribune seems blissfully unconcerned with a “major first amendment issue:”
…what would have been the reaction (from the Star Tribune and elsewhere) if Governor Tim Pawlenty had demanded that Strib columnist Nick Coleman be fired for absurdly claiming that it was Pawlenty’s fault the 35W bridge collapsed? …the howls of outrage cannot be imagined.
Stay tuned.

Stay tuned is right.
The Power Line Blog boys are generally given credit for bringing down Dan Rather when he used fabricated documents to smear President Bush. They have also made current Strib columnist, Nick Coleman, and former Strib editorial writer, Jim Boyd, national laughing stocks.
Believe me, these are the last guys you would want on your tail. Rep Greiling has gone bear hunting with a switch.
As a guy who knows Mindy Greiling a little bit, I will offer her this suggestion, sue for peace in order to avoid unconditional surrender.
