Confidence not awe-inspiring
In the wake of a staggering amount of data calling into question the entire theory of climate change (only two more months until it becomes global warming again), Al Gore confidently points out there is only a “tiny, tiny” few cave-dwelling denialists:
I think that those people are in such a tiny, tiny minority now with their point of view, they’re almost like the ones who still believe that the moon landing was staged in a movie lot in Arizona and those who believe the world is flat.
He then announces the commencement of a $300 million ad campaign raising awareness about the issue. Pardon me for pointing out the obvious: If non-believers were comprised of such a “tiny, tiny” group of conspiracy crackpots, why do we need $300 million in Awareness Raising!TM
It sounds like a pretty wasteful use of resources, given the planet is dying and everyone knows it.

The above is is a great blog for those that want the “science” of Global warming rather than indoctrination.
Great Quote from that particular post, by Roy W. Spencer, a principal research scientist at the University of Alabama :
“I am not claiming that all of our recent warming is natural. But the extreme reluctance for most scientists to even entertain the possibility that some of it might be natural suggests to me that climate research has become corrupted. I fear that the sloppy practice of climate change science will damage our discipline for a long time to come.”
Amen Roy, and too bad.
Follow-up: The 60 minutes press release/teaser video incensed them so much, wattsupwiththat has posted contact information for CBS at the link below. So let CBS know what you think…

Unfortunately, comments like the ones above are the reason the $300 million ad campaign is needed. Oil and gas companies are pouring money into the campaigns for the “deniers”. Just like the insurance companies killed health care reform, you can’t let these ideas go unchallenged. Your post may think its a “waste” but at least it is NOT taxpayer money — Gore is putting over $1 million of his own money to back this up. You can make light of global warming but it is real and we have to deal with it.
Who can actually believe that we can control the weather? That seems to be pretty darn egotistical and an almost god-like approach to life. When weather folks can’t accurately predict the weather for tomorrow, who believes they can say for certainty that we will be 1 degree lower in 100 years by using the right lightbulbs, driving the right vehicles, reducing the amount of air we breathe?
Also, CO2 is what plants utilize for photosynthesis in order to provide oxygen for us nasty humans to breathe and for the plants to grow. That seems pretty “anti-green” to me!
The power/money grab using so called global-warming/climate change is gaining momentum and is going to bring about a world government in which the U.S. is going to have very little say. O.K., maybe this is too big-picture for some and maybe the black helicopters are flying but it is NOT all about protecting the environment.
Breathing deep and off my soapbox.
