We have an arsenal greater than any terrorist
Violence saddens me, as I’m sure it does most people. But even more profoundly disappointing is the way we excuse it in this day and age.
Since Sept. 11, our own willingness to use violence seems to have grown while our restraint has faded. We hear our leaders excuse the monstrous levels of violence going on around the globe while we, the public, grow ever more reluctant to second-guess the idea of using force as a “means to securing peace.”
Unfortunately, I don’t believe true, lasting peace is an outcome of that mentality.
The enemy in this world, especially in the nuclear, post-9/11 world, is violence and war itself. Sure, there is a declared war against the word “terrorism” yet, somewhat ironically, it is fought against people and not the poisonous ideology that infects people. I suggest we could stand to take the expression “war on terrorism” much more literally. Read more »
